New look: RTL II

RTL II is Germany's seventh most watched TV channel. With a schedule targeting young people containing reality shows like "Big Brother", movies and imported American series, its programming formula can be summed up with the official slogan, "It's fun". Last Wednesday, August 10, RTL II introduced a new look.

Its logo, two bars (which can be interpreted as the roman numeral 2, but also as a pause symbol) enclosed by a circle, has now been turned into a glowing 3D model. Carsten Molis from RTL II worked with the Berlin audiovisual agency Leitwerk Medien GmbH on the new 3D graphics

For the last few years, RTL II has used international recording artists to brand the channel. Stars like Pink, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber have appeared in promos and break bumpers, assuring viewers that they "love RTL II". To launch this rebrand, the channel has involved Shakira to appear in promos and trailers, interacting with the updated logo and expressing her love for the channel. There are also image promos and break bumpers featuring generic young people.

RTL II's previous on-air-design was introduced in June 2009, along with the current "it's fun" slogan. Back then, Carsten Molis worked with Opium Effect on the graphics.

The montage of the new graphics below shows how the team has worked on creating smooth transitions between promos and ID spots.
